Tributo al Maestro

Tribute to the Maestro

The show

«Everything that can be expressed with the six strings of the guitar lies in his hands, hands brought to life by the moving depth of his sensibility and by the clarity of the utmost interpretative honesty.»

A flamenco guitar alongside the melody of a saxophone and the magic of the timple: a masterful trio of exceptional musicians paying tribute to one of the most emblematic guitarists of all time, a lover of the sea, the wind and the sand of the islands.

Paco once told us: «When I was a child there was no freedom when it came to composing. You had to repeat the old ways. Flamenco people considered any note outside the established order a sacrilege. I always felt that traditions had to be respected, but not obeyed with blind faith. That you had to squeeze your own time, be in the moment you are living, with all the music you hear, all the evolution, and always, always, without losing that essence, that strength, that personality flamenco has.»

In his search for harmony, Paco de Lucía opened flamenco to musics beyond its own world — blues, jazz — and along the way left legendary pieces such as Entre dos aguas, the centrepiece of this show, in which the five strings of the timple accompany the six of the guitar. All folk traditions share common roots, and that is what we set out to show here. The maestro died on a 25 February; he deserves the greatest of homages, and this tribute is ours.
